With only 21 days to go until the Opening Ceremony in Rio (on 5 August) we were honoured to have hosted a special event for the Australian National Men’s "the Boomers" Basketball Team.
Super stars Andrew Bogut, Patty Mills, Joe Ingles and even the coach himself Andrej Lemanis made the event a once in a lifetime experience.
With over 340 guests, the event held on 6th July at the stunning Glasshouse venue was certainly a who’s who from the financial planners industry, including the CEO of the Financial Services Council, Sally Sloane and a few of the former Boomers, including Mark Worthington, Darryl McDonald and even a 2 x Olympian, former NBL and NBA champion and Master of Ceremony, Chris Anstey.
We even had a few of our Collingwood friends Darcy Moore, Adam Treloar, Jamie Elliott and Mason Cox make a special appearance for this event. Also making an appearance was Fitzroy football legend Laurie Serafini.

Could this be the Boomers chance to make history?
In 1956 Australia’s population was 9.4 million, and basketball made only its fourth appearance in Olympic competition. Fifteen nations competed in the event, with 174 players. A total number of 56 games were held at the Royal Exhibition Building and Australia finished twelfth.
To this day our men’s national team have never medaled – the closest we have ever come was the 2000 Sydney Olympics with 4th place. So our sights now turn firmly to the #RoadtoRio. Some 60 years and 15 Olympics later, the dream of making another final burns even brighter in the Boomers who are about to begin their journey. They will not be deterred ...and have made this their priority for Rio 2016.
Now more than ever before, with the most number of Boomers ever playing in the NBA, could this be their time, their moment?
La Trobe Financial is proud to be a supporter of the Boomers, and their medal objective.
